Human Time Tree Time
next to dropping trees and balancing humans or – sometimes – next to dropping humans and balancing trees.
The performance takes people into the woods to explore the relationship between humans and wood - by all imaginable ways of balancing. People will experience a performance next to dropping trees and balancing humans or – sometimes – next to dropping humans and balancing trees.
The performance takes place outside, in a forest, in a surrounding close to a forest or in a park with trees. It should be like “a trip” into the woods. Therefore, the visitors gather at a meeting point and walk to the performance. To the left and to the right, some structures appear now and then.
With trees and branches found on the location the performers create various structures and images and search for the equilibrium state while facing the different aspects of gravity, which makes balancing possible and impossible. Balancing is strongly influencing the relation between the two performers – between themselves and also their relations to the objects. Finding the equilibrium state of the objects converts balancing from a circus discipline into an exhibition space and art performance in nature, where in the end one big installation will be created, including a full tree with roots and the performers functioning as contra-weights.
A natural surrounding with all its varieties from very old to very young trees, trunks, big and small branches is an inspiring setting full of possibilities and challenges. It also tells about the ephemeral nature of beings. Klub Girko creates a particular experience for the audience reminding them also about the fragility of the relationship between nature and humankind. We all know that this relationship is in danger and that trees and plants are playing a key role in maintaining our climate and planet. Humans and plants seem to have lost balance, even though one is depending on the other.
KLUB GIRKO are Josef Stiller and Moritz Grenz, a collective based in Germany. KLUB GIRKO is searching for new and contemporary ways of working with their circus disciplines and relating circus arts to dance, theatre, music and fine arts. They are driven by a desire to keep things moving and not to rest on an accomplished comfort zone or certain style. Therefore, they understand KLUB GIRKO as a framework for artistic exploration, collaborations and creations of many kinds.
